| | | Santa Cruz Masters Meet | 7/6/07to 7/8/07 | |
| The annual PMS Masters Long Course Championships will be held in Santa Cruz on July 6-8. The meet title sounds impressive, but you do not have to be a record holder to participate in this meet. All levels of swimmers are welcome at the meet. The meet is held on the UCSC campus and the pool is great. Also swimming in a 50 meter pool eliminates the stress of doing so many turns, just think half the laps and half the turns. We would like to have many of our swimmers attend so we can put together multiple relays. The relay divisions are determined by adding the ages of the swimmers together. The entries for the meet can be done on line or you can mail them in. You do need to enter long course times. I will be happy to help you figure out your times and determine your events. The days are usually long so plan to swim three to four events each day (not including the relays) or maybe you can commit to going on just one day. The relays will not be determined until the day of the meet depending upon who is swimming that day. Please only enter the individual events, the coaches are required to enter the relays. The coaches have entry information and we have a list of swimmers planning to attend. ***Please note, that I will be attending the meet on Saturday and Sunday only. If you are planning to swim the longer events on Friday, please let me know. |

| | | PMS Championships | 4/20/07to 4/22/07 | |
| On April 20-22, the PMS Championships will be held in Walnut Creek. We had 20+ people at this meet last year in Pleasanton and our team just missed scoring in the top ten as a team. We needed more relays in all age groups as they score double the points. So plan ahead and join us at this meet. More details soon. | | | |

| | | 1650 Swim | 1/10/07to 2/25/07 | |
| Our annual 1650 free dates are on the calendar and many of the choice times are already gone. If you have not signed up for your mile swim, please do so with one of the coaches. Currently, we have several dates set up for the swim. They are Wed, 1/10, Fri 1/12 (full), Sat 1/13, Mon 1/29, Fri 2/2 (full), Sat 2/3, and Sun 2/25. If none of the dates will work for your schedule, please let me know and we will find a time to do your swim. I will probably be adding a date in late February during the week, please watch for details. Remember the annual 1650 swim is a great way to determine where you are in your training for this time of year, check your improvement over previous years, challenge yourself to do something that is not totally comfortable, try something new and challenging for our first year swimmers, strive to do your best and truly accomplish an incredible swim. So sign up now!The 1650 free is also a national postal event. If you choose, you can send your split sheet plus the entry form and entry fee in and be ranked with other swimmers in your age division. You can also get a t-shirt. In the past, we have had the largest number of entries from an individual team. We also had an event record set by our 65-69 men last year in the relay division (added times for four swimmers). | | | |
| | | Pacific Masters SCM Championships | 10/13/06to 10/15/06 | |
| The annual Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships will be held October 13-15 in Walnut Creek. We attended this meet last year (November) and had a great time even though it sprinkled a little. Entry forms are not available yet, but should be soon. Plan ahead to go with us to this meet. More details soon. (I will be at the meet on Friday and Saturday only). |

| | | TCAM Mini Meet | 9/16/06 | |
| The annual TCAM fall mini meet will be held on Saturday, September 16. Warmups will begin at 8:30 AM and the meet will start soon after. We will be offering lots of events in each of the strokes. We will even have 50's for those of you who are new to pool meets, but do remember we are a distance team so maybe try the 200 free. The mini meets are very low key and a lot of fun. I would like to encourage everyone to come and participate.Afterwards we will have a brunch (fantastic of course). Everyone should bring something to share and we will also be making waffles. | | | |
| | | Pinecrest Open Water Swim | 8/26/06 | |
| The annual Pinecrest Open Water swim is this weekend, Saturday, August 26. The day begins with a one mile swim for the US swimmers (over age 12) followed by the masters in the one mile, and finally the two mile masters swim. TCA swimmers over age twelve should be enterd in the swim (talk with Patti prior to entering). TCAM swimmers should be using the Pinecrest swim as a challenge and an accomplishment. If you completed the 1650 in the winter, you are ready for Pinecrest. Enter with a lane mate and swim together, many find they like the open water swimming. Just think no circle swimming, no line on the bottom, no pace clock, no coach, no intervals, it is just you and the beautiful Pinecrest lake. Give it a try! We would appreciate it very much if you would enter prior to Saturday to help out the entry process. Race day entries are being accepted beginning at 6:30 AM.We do need help with food items. If you could bake a breakfast/brunch treat (muffins, scones, bread, quiche, salads, lasagna or whatever) you efforts would be greatly appreciated. You can bring your food to the beach on Saturday AM and give it to Bobbi at the food table. If you are unable to bring your food on Saturday, please bring it to the pool by 3:00 PM on Friday, Aug 25. Thank you. Also if you are not swimming, we can use volunteers. Contact Sheila Monaghan or just show up on Saturday (early) and we will put you to work. | http://www.pacificmasters.org/comp/06/06Tcamow2m.html

| | | Pacific Masters LC Championships | 7/7/06to 7/9/06 | |
| Santa Cruz. This meet is open of all ages and abilities of swimmers and the UC Santa Cruz pool is in a beautiful setting. At this meet, the teams score points so we would like to encourage everyone to go especially for relays. Last year we finished 20th and this spring at the short course meet in Pleasanton we were 11th. So maybe in Santa Cruz we can break into the top ten. We need everyone, so come and join the fun. The entry forms are in the PMS magazine and we will have them on the deck soon. Do make reservations for hotels now as Santa Cruz is very busy in the summer months. | http://tcam.swimtca.org/news.php?selected_article=2006-07-09-PMS_Long_Course_Champs.txt#article

| | | California Senior Games Championships | 6/11/06 | |
| I am including a slightly longer explanation of the senior games meet as I would like to encourage all of our over 50 swimmers to participate in this meet. Also reservations must be made now if you are interested in attending. The meet is held in Pasadena on Sunday, June 11.Who should attend this meet? The Senior Games is a separate group from US masters swimming. They host their own qualifying meets and then a national meet every two years. The next national meet will be held in June 2007 in Louisville, Kentucky and the 2009 meet will be held in San Francisco. Swimmers swim in five year age divisions beginning at age 50. To participate in the Pasadena meet, swimmers must turn 50 by December 31, 2006. To qualify for the national meet, swimmers must compete in the state meet (Pasadena). As a team, we have had swimmers participate since 2002. In June of 2003, we had three swimmers compete in the national meet in Virginia. Last year, we had seven swimmers compete in Pittsburgh. In comparing the Senior games meets to masters meets, we have found these meets to be smaller, slightly less competitive, not as organized, but overall a great experience and we had a great time.Currently on our team, we have 149 swimmers who are over age 49. I would like to see all of you go the to the meet in Pasadena. Each of the meets we have attended as a team have been great experiences. Meets help you improve, provide a challenge, build team support (we are always the loudest), encourage socialization and are fun. Please think about going.Hotel:The host hotel for the meet is the Sheraton (626-449-4000, 800-457-7940). The cost is $99/night (not including taxes etc).Transportation:Southwest Airlines has a flight (2894) on Saturday, June 12 at 10:55AM from Sacramento and arriving in Burbank at 12:00PM. The return flight from Burbank on Monday, June 14 flight 1355 leaves at 10:25 and returns to Sacramento at 11:35AM. The cost of the flight is $178.60. Southwest does change their prices frequently so do not wait to book your flight. You can also choose to leave on Sunday evening and driving is also an option. We will rent vans and the cost will be split among the participants.Entries:Entry forms and more information is available from the coaches. Please check out the information. If you have questions please do not hesitate to talk with me so I can convince you to go. | | | |
| | | TCAM Mini Meet | 5/20/06 | |
| On Saturday, May 20, we will have our first spring masters team meet. Warm ups will begin at 8:00. For the meet, we will be using the timing system and board, so we would like each swimmer to preregister prior to swimming in the mini meet. Entry forms are available at the pool and swimmers can select five events. The entry forms should be returned to the coaches with the $5.00 entry fee by Wednesday, May 17. Swimmers can also enter and change your selection of events on the day of the meet prior to 8:00 AM. We also need help with timing, ribbon writing and waffle making, so bring a friend. After the meet, we will be having a fantastic brunch with waffles. Everyone should plan to bring something great to eat and share with your swimming friends. The mini meets are a great experience as they provide you with an opportunity to swim alone in your lane, challenge yourself to swim an event you may not have tried before, see where you are in your training, try a new experience, win ribbons, and socialize with your swimming friends. The mini meets are low-key and fun. Remember you do not have to dive off the blocks, you can even start in the water. So sign up and come. |

| | | Annual Pinecrest Open Water Swim | 8/27/05 | |
The Pinecrest swim was a huge success with the largest number of TCA and TCAM swimmers completing the swims. Congratulations to all of the finishers, we are proud of you!
With some extra effort from our volunteers we were able to pull off the swims. Masters had the choice of doing a 1 mile or 2 mile swim or (if they were completely nuts!) both! The timing system we rented did not make it due to car trouble but we have results. Big thanks to everyone who helped, especially the food, that was excellent! |
